Part 4 Three months later. Daniel is still alive
Part 4
Three months later.
Daniel is still alive — barely. He’s on the transplant list but his body is weak from the first rejection and years of hiding his health issues. The doctors say the emotional betrayal and stress likely accelerated the failure. My kidney fought to stay until the very love it was meant to save poisoned it.
Kara moved in with him to “take care of him.” Last I heard they were fighting constantly. No money, no health, no respect left between them. She’s stuck now — the sister who stole a married man with his wife’s kidney. The family has chosen sides. Most chose mine.
As for me?
I sold the house. Took the kids and moved closer to the coast. I started therapy, got a promotion at work, and slowly started feeling like a whole person again — even with one kidney. The scar doesn’t hurt as much anymore. It’s just proof I survived.
Sometimes I still get messages from Daniel. Long, rambling apologies. I never reply.
Karma didn’t need me to destroy them. Their own choices did that just fine.
I gave him life once. He chose to throw it away.
Now I’m choosing mine.
