P3: The Confrontation
P3: The Confrontation
The music stopped the moment I stepped inside. All three of them turned to look at me like they had seen a ghost.
Andrew’s face went white. “Valerie…? What are you doing here?”
My mother-in-law recovered first, forcing a smile. “Darling, you’re supposed to be on a plane!”
I walked slowly toward them, holding up the death certificate and the folder with the forged signature.
“I never left,” I said, my voice steady despite the storm inside me. “I came back to see what my loving family was doing while I was gone.”
Sophia instinctively covered her belly, stepping behind Andrew.
Andrew tried to speak. “Baby, this isn’t what it looks like—”
“Save it,” I cut him off. “I heard everything. The money. The forged papers. The accident you planned for me. Even the part where you said I ran off with a lover.”
Mrs. Eleanor’s mask finally cracked. “You ungrateful little—”
“Ungrateful?” I laughed bitterly. “You paid me to disappear so your son could marry his pregnant mistress and steal everything I helped build. You forged my signature. You planned my murder. And you have the nerve to call me ungrateful?”
I threw the evidence on the table.
“I have copies of everything. The police are already on their way.”
Andrew dropped to his knees. “Valerie, please… we can fix this. It was Mom’s idea. I never wanted to hurt you.”
Sophia started crying. “Please don’t take my baby’s future away…”
I looked at all three of them — the people I once trusted most in the world.
“You didn’t just break my heart,” I said coldly. “You tried to erase me completely. Now I’m going to erase you from my life.”
