Three children were playing in the mother’s bedroom on Wednesday, at their home in Hayden, north of Birmingham, Alabama, when she heard a loud bang.
Etress raced to the room, where she found her two-year-old son had been shot in the head, and a .380-calibre handgun was lying in a wardrobe.
When cops arrived, the toddler had a gunshot wound on his head, but was still breathing.
Noah was rushed to hospital but later pronounced dead, despite the best efforts of paramedics.
