Family of young Alabama wreck victim offers tragic update: ‘Wish I could see that reunion’
The family of Brynleigh Pledger, the 7-year-old Hartselle girl injured in an April 11 accident, said life support measures are ending. The wreck also claimed the lives of Brynleigh’s twin, Bryleigh, her brother, Bryant Ballew, 13, and their mother, Ashley Hagood, 33. The family of Brynleigh Pledger, the 7-year-old Hartselle girl injured in an April 11 accident that claimed the lives of her mother, brother and twin sister, said life support measures are ending and the family is making plans for organ donation.
Miranda Pledger, Brynleigh’s stepmother, offered the update via a social media post.
“Our baby girl will soon be joining her mommy, brother, and twin sister Bryleigh on those beautiful streets of gold. Her sweet little body is done. She has fought so incredibly hard, but the damage to her little brain has taken its toll. Her prognosis is unsurvivable. The machines are literally doing everything at this point, and there is no way we can keep her like this just for us to have her here on Earth with us.
“This pain is indescribable. We can only be comforted by the fact that our sweet girls are back together and made whole again in the arms of our Lord. The twins were inseparable, and I know Bryleigh Grace is impatiently waiting on her other half to join her. I kind of wish I could see that reunion. I can only imagine.
“What a day, glorious day, that must be.”
The family said Brynleigh’s legacy will live on through organ donation.
“We can’t change the life it has taken from us, but hopefully donating her gifts, can keep this unimaginable nightmare from happening to someone else,” Miranda Pledger said.
Bryant Ballew, 13, and Bryleigh Pledger, 7, and their mother, 33-year-old Ashley Hagood, were killed in a wreck at the intersection of Highways 157 and 24 in Lawrence County on Saturday. Brynleigh Pledger and her brother Bentley Pledger, 10, were severely injured in the crash and airlifted to Birmingham’s UAB Hospital. Bentley Pledger is recovering and was visited by members of the University of Alabama baseball team yesterday.
“Please pray for not only us, but our sweet Bentley that we have had to explain the situation over and over again. He had a significant concussion, so he forgets and wakes up wondering why he’s in the doctor’s office. He’s reliving this nightmare over and over every time we have to explain this to him,” Miranda Pledger said.
“Thankfully, we serve a God that can give us a peace that surpasses all understanding. We know we will be ok, but getting to ‘ok’ is going to take a while,” she added.
