The parents of accused killer Bryan Kohberger have been called to testify before a Pennsylvania grand jury in the case of a woman found dead a year after she disappeared.
The couple was asked to provide testimony in the case of 45-year-old Dana Smithers, whose remains were found late last month after she disappeared in May 2022, local outlet Eyewitness News WBRE/WYOU reported.
Smithers was last seen alive leaving a friend’s home in Monroe County — the same county where Kohberger lived before moving across the country to pursue a doctorate at Washington State University.
However, a source close to the case said Kohberger has a solid alibi and is not believed to be linked to Smithers’ death, according to the Pennsylvania outlet.
Nevertheless, the investigation is ongoing.
Smithers’ remains were discovered in a wooded area in Stroudsburg on April 27 and dental records were used to identify the body.
The county coroner had not determined a cause of death at that point.

Earlier this week, Kohberger appeared in court in Moscow, Idaho, where he stands accused of stabbing four University of Idaho students to death as they slept in their off-campus home on Nov. 13, 2022.
The alleged killer stood silent when asked how he pleaded to a five-count indictment, and a not guilty plea was therefore entered on his behalf to four counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony burglary.
Kohberger is accused of killing 21-year-olds Maddie Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves and 20-year-olds Ethan Chapin and Xana Kernodle.
Prosecutors have 60 days from Monday’s arraignment hearing to decide whether to seek the death penalty for the 28-year-old former criminology student.
The case is set to go to trial on Oct. 2. Kohberger remains behind bars in Latah County Jail.

Linda thought wearing her dying grandmother’s old prom dress would be a quiet way to honor her one last time. My grandmother had been dying for months when prom season rolled around, and […]
tt_Part 2: My Son Gave His Umbrella to a Pregnant Stranger in the Rain – The Next Morning, 47 Umbrellas Appeared on Our Lawn
My twelve-year-old son came home soaked after giving away his late father’s umbrella to a pregnant stranger in the rain. I wanted to be angry until the next morning, when our lawn was covered with forty-seven umbrellas and boxes that turned his quiet kindness into something much bigger. My twelve-year-old son gave away the last […]
tt_Part 2: My ex ch3ated, abandoned me and our son, then invited us to his wedding. During his speech, he laughed, “Leaving that trash behind was my best decision.” Everyone laughed until my son took the mic and handed him a “gift.”
The invitation arrived on a Thursday afternoon, tucked between a water bill and a grocery coupon flyer. Ordinary things can be cruel that way. They sit beside humiliation as if life is still normal, as if paper towels being on sale belongs in the same moment as an ivory envelope announcing your ex-husband’s wedding to […]
tt_Part 2: I took my 4-year-old triplets to my millionaire ex-husband’s wedding and his family’s reaction was chilling.
They expected me to walk in shattered. That was the real reason the Montgomery family invited me to my ex-husband’s wedding. The Montgomerys were Chicago old-money royalty — wealthy, feared, image-obsessed, and convinced that anyone outside their bloodline was beneath them. Especially me. That invitation was not kindness. It was bait. They wanted me seated […]
tt_Part 2: My mother gave each of my three sisters a bedroom in my new house without asking me, like I was just a walking wallet for the family
My mother assigned one bedroom in my new house to each of my three sisters without even asking me, as if I were nothing more than the family’s walking wallet. Their belongings were already inside, and they honestly believed I would smile, stay quiet, and let them take over everything I had built. So the […]
