Gardai have issued an update on the investigation into a suspected murder suicide that has plunged a west Dublin community into grief.

Oisin Reddin, 12, was found dead at a residence in Lindisfarne Grove, Clondalkin, West Dublin on Thursday morning. The body of his father, Wayne O’Reilly, 48, was also discovered at a property in Cherry Orchard, Ballyfermot. It’s suspected that he took his own life after fleeing from the scene in Clondalkin.

Both father and son had previously been reported missing to Gardaí back in October of last year – and a nationwide alert had been issued before they were found safe and well.

In a statement this evening Gardai issued an update on the investigation – revealing that post mortems have been completed.

A spokesperson said: “Gardaí continue to investigate all of the circumstances surrounding the discovery of two bodies at domestic residences in Ballyfermot, Dublin 10 & Clondalkin, Dublin 22, on Thursday 8th January 2026.

“Post Mortems on the remains of 12-year-old Oísin Reddin and 48-year-old Wayne O’Reilly have been completed.Results of the Post Mortems are not being released for operational reasons. Technical examinations at both domestic residences have been completed.

“The investigation continues to be carried out under the direction of a Senior Investigating Officer. Family Liaison Officers continue to liaise with the families of both Oísin Reddin and Wayne O’Reilly

“An Garda Síochána are appealing to any person who may have any information in relation to these deaths to contact the Garda Investigation Team at Clondalkin Garda Station at 01-6667600, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or at any Garda station.”

Flowers were laid outside the home where young Oisin’s body was found on Thursday as people paid their respects to the child. Sinn Féin councillor Daithi Doolan shared that a “deep sadness” hangs over the community following the tragedy.

He said: “We didn’t expect this here, you never expect in your doorstep.” He added that there is “a deep sadness and, I suppose, a sense of anger at it happening at all”. He said there is a “long journey” ahead for the family.

“But they can be rest assured, this community will be with them every step of the way as they embark on that difficult, difficult journey,” he added.
