FBI Analysis Discovers New Breakthrough in Nancy Guthrie Case Amid Reports Officials Are ‘Definitely Closer’ to Finding Her Abductor—‘We Do Believe…’

One thing about the Nancy Guthrie investigation is clear: we don’t know nearly enough of what’s happening behind the scenes as law enforcement turns over every possible lead in the case of the abduction of Savannah Guthrie’s mom. Part of that is normal; police rarely show their entire hand during an investigation. And part of it is that there’s so much that still needs to be figured out.

But there’s one particular date law enforcement is looking at very closely. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, who has been heavily criticized for the lack of concrete evidence during this long investigation, revealed that his department is focusing on an incident that might have happened a few weeks before Nancy’s abduction. On January 11, to be exact.

“We do believe that something occurred on Jan. 11, and that’s with the FBI’s analysis of the equipment and digital stuff they’ve done,” he told KOLD on Monday, March 23. He, however, refused to specify exactly what the police think happened or why the date is significant in the search for Guthrie.

Nanos had said earlier this month that they were “definitely closer” to figuring out a suspect. While speaking to NBC’s Liz Kreutz, Nanos said, “I think that investigators are definitely closer. We’ve got a lot of intel, a lot of leads, but now it’s time to just go to work.”

Among the leads they have released to the public are surveillance photos and videos of a suspect from outside Nancy Guthrie’s home. Police have also reportedly recovered DNA from the residence and have been asking questions of the neighbors about a house that is empty close to Guthrie’s home, as well as a possible internet outage on the day of the kidnapping.

The Guthrie family recently posted a statement on Instagram about the case and where they stand right now. “We continue to believe it is Tucsonans, and the greater southern Arizona community, that hold the key to finding resolution in this case,” the statement said.

In their statement, the family also mentioned January 11 as an important date. “Someone knows something. It’s possible a member of this community has information that they do not even realize is significant. We hope people search their memories, especially around the key timelines of January 31 and the early morning hours of February 1, as well as the late evening of January 11.”

“We desperately ask this community for renewed attention to our mom’s case – please consult camera footage, journal notes, text messages, observations or conversations that in retrospect may hold significance,” the statement went on to add
