Fifty days. No arrest. No named suspect. No Nancy.
The search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie, officially hit the 50-day mark on Sunday, March 22 – entering its eighth week with the investigation still producing no public breakthrough.
And this weekend, her family chose not to go quiet. They chose to ask louder.

What the family said this weekend
The Guthrie family released a statement to NBC affiliate KVOA in Tucson on Saturday evening, expressing gratitude to the community and urging residents not to forget the case. “We are deeply grateful for the outpouring from neighbors, friends and the people of Tucson. We are all family now,” the family said.
On Sunday morning, Savannah Guthrie posted a further statement on Instagram, asking the Tucson and larger Arizona community to review camera footage, journal notes, text messages, and personal observations for anything that could be relevant. “We desperately ask this community for renewed attention to our mom’s case,” she wrote. “No detail is too small. It may be the key.”
Savannah added one line that carries the weight of the entire eight weeks: “Someone knows how to find our mom and bring her home.”
Where the investigation stands
Investigators have no publicly named suspect and no stated motive, though Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told NBC Nightly News that investigators believe they know why Nancy Guthrie’s home was specifically targeted.
A retired detective has suggested that between two and four accomplices may have been involved – pointing to the level of coordination required for the abduction. FBI agents are also investigating a vacant home near Nancy’s residence as a possible staging location used by suspects to observe neighborhood routines before her disappearance.
The family specifically asked the public to search their memories around two key dates – January 31 and the early morning hours of February 1, as well as the late evening of January 11. Investigators have been asking neighbors about January 11 for weeks but have not publicly explained why that date is significant.
The FBI has also recovered new thumbnail images from motion-activated cameras at Nancy’s home covering the pool area, backyard, and side yard – but nothing in those images has been considered suspicious, and no video was captured from any of the cameras on the night of her disappearance.
Savannah’s words at Rockefeller Center
When Savannah Guthrie briefly returned to the Today studios on March 6 to thank her colleagues, she said something that has stayed with the people who heard it. “I wanted you to know that I’m still standing, and I still have hope, and I’m still me,” she told the staff. “I’m holding onto my faith. I still believe. And as my mom would say, ‘Where else would I go?'”
That last line – borrowed from her mother’s own words – is the thread that runs through this entire story. Nancy Guthrie was a woman of deep, daily, unshakeable faith. Her daughter is carrying that same faith into the hardest stretch of her life.
The FBI tip line remains active. The family’s reward stands at $1 million. The FBI is offering an additional $100,000.
