The aunt of Jimmy Gracey, the University of Alabama student who went missing in Barcelona, Spain, says the family is trying to stay strong as the search continues overseas.

“We’re doing the best we can, taking it minute by minute,” Beth O’Reilly told “Jesse Weber Live” on Wednesday.

She continued: “We’re all just hanging together and doing the best we can to get his story out so people see his face, recognize his face, and if they know anything, that they’ll bring it to the authorities.”

Gracey, a 20-year-old from the western suburbs of Chicago, was last seen early Tuesday at the nightclub Shôko while he was visiting friends who are studying abroad.

“They were all together at the start of the night, and as the night went on, the club got crowded, and everybody just sort of ended up in different corners,” O’Reilly said.

The family believes Spanish authorities have Gracey’s phone. O’Reilly said her brother-in-law is in Barcelona, trying to work with police, while the U.S. State Department has offered support.

“We don’t know whether it was lost, stolen, whatever,” she said of Gracey’s phone. “Beyond that, we don’t have a lot of additional information right now.”

The relative described her hockey-playing nephew as “one of the greatest kids you’ll ever meet.”

“He’s a great student, honors student, chaplain in his fraternity. He’s a wonderful, loving son, big brother to a sister and three little brothers,” O’Reilly said. “The reason we’re so concerned: He does not have his phone, and he is not known to not be in touch with family and friends.”

Jimmy Gracey disappearance: Foul play suspected

A reporter from El Periódico in Barcelona told NewsNation affiliate WIAT that police are reviewing surveillance video and suspect foul play.

Police examined CCTV video and saw Gracey outside the club, and said he left with someone else. Investigators are working to determine his next steps.

The person Gracey was seen with has not been identified, nor do police know their relation to Gracey.

Jimmy Gracey is 6 ft, 1 inch tall and weighs 175 pounds. He was wearing a white T-shirt and dark pants before he disappeared, along with a gold chain with a rhinestone cross.
