President Donald Trump Issues Statement on Case Gripping the Nation
American television host Savannah Guthrie has publicly declared her willingness to pay a ransom in exchange for the safe return of her mother, Nancy Guthrie, who has been missing for one week in a case that has shocked the United States.
In a video posted on social media on Saturday (early Sunday morning AEDT), the Today show star appeared alongside her two siblings, Annie and Camron. Looking tense but resolute, Guthrie said the family had received a message believed to be from those involved in the alleged abduction of her 84-year-old mother.
“We have received your message, and we understand,” Guthrie said in the video. “Now we are begging you to return our mother to us.”
She emphasized that the family is prepared to meet the demands in exchange for Nancy’s safety. “This is the only way for all of us to find peace. It is priceless to us, and we are willing to pay.”
This marks the third time the family has publicly responded to messages believed to be from the abductors since Nancy Guthrie went missing. According to authorities, she is believed to have been taken against her will from her suburban home in Tucson, Arizona, late last weekend.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed that DNA testing matched blood found on the front porch of the home to Nancy Guthrie. However, investigators have not identified a specific suspect and have stated that no possibilities have been ruled out.
The investigation has faced significant challenges due to a lack of clear evidence. According to Kevin Smith, spokesperson for the FBI’s Phoenix office, Savannah Guthrie’s video is connected to an email sent to KOLD-TV in Tucson on Friday afternoon. KOLD confirmed receiving information related to the case via social media but declined to release details, citing ongoing FBI verification.
In addition to KOLD, several other media outlets have received ransom letters related to the case over the past week. At least one letter reportedly mentioned a specific amount of money and set deadlines for Thursday evening and the following Monday night. Authorities have not confirmed the authenticity of the letters but said all information is being carefully reviewed.
Notably, one letter referenced Nancy Guthrie’s Apple Watch and a specific detail inside her home—elements that prompted heightened concern among investigators.
Home surveillance footage has provided little assistance. Investigators determined that the doorbell camera was disconnected early Sunday morning, around the suspected time of the incident. Although the system registered motion minutes later, footage could not be retrieved because Nancy did not maintain an active service subscription.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump, speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, said the investigation was making positive progress.
“We have some very significant leads, and we may have more information to release soon,” Trump said while en route to Florida.
The case remains under joint investigation by federal and local authorities, as Savannah Guthrie’s family continues to plead for the safe return of their elderly mother.
