Nancy Guthrie has been missing for six weeks, and now, those who had hope she could still be alive are admitting that they are getting emotional and losing hope over the possibility.

Nancy, the 84-year-old mother of The Today Show co-hostΒ Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing on February 1, after she failed to attend a church service. She was last seen the night before, after her son-in-law dropped her back at her Tucson, Arizona home, following a dinner and games night at her daughter Annie’s house.

Now, after six weeks of no new answers, leads, or even suspects, it appears many following the case have started to lose hope that she will be recovered alive. It comes after aΒ chilling new theory emerged on how Nancy Guthrie was sickeningly taken from her home.

Speaking to true crime expert Brian Entin on his YouTube channel, ex-FBI agent Maureen O’Connell admitted to being one of the people who has started to lose hope.

As they discussed the recent developments, Entin asked her a telling question about whether or not she believed Nancy was still alive, six weeks on from her suspected abduction.

Getting emotional, O’Connell admitted she no longer did.

β€œDo I think she’s alive now? I could just almost burst into tears because I was so hopeful for so long, but I think too much time has passed now. And I’m so sad about that.”

Her comment comes just weeks after Savannah admitted for the first time that she and the other members of her family had reached the same conclusion: that Nancy may no longer be alive.

Taking to Instagram with an emotional plea, where she pledged to donate money to the Centers for Missing and Exploited Children and also upped the award for information on her mother to $1 million, the 54-year-old admitted that she and her siblings were aware that they may not get to reunite with their mother alive again.

β€œWe still believe in a miracle, we still believe that she can come home, hope against hope,” she said at the time,

β€œWe also know that she may be lost. She may already be gone. She may have already gone home to the Lord that she loves and is dancing in Heaven with her mom and dad and with her beloved brother Pierce and with our daddy,” she continued.

β€œAnd if this is what is to be, then we will accept it, but we need to know where she is. We need her to come home.”

She alluded to the possibility that her mother had passed while also discussing the increased reward.

β€œTell what you know, and help us bring our beloved mom home, so that we can either celebrate a glorious, miraculous homecoming, or celebrate the beautiful, brave, courageous, and noble life that she has lived.”
