Investigators are looking into reports of internet glitches the night Nancy Guthrie disappeared to determine whether the apparent disruptions are tied to the case.
The 84-year-old mother of Today co-host Savannah Guthrie was reported missing by her family on Feb. 1 and was last seen the night before at her home in Tucson, Ariz. Authorities believe she was taken against her will in the middle of night.
On Thursday, March 5, investigators with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and FBI were again seen canvassing the neighborhood. Several neighbors said investigators asked whether they experienced any internet service disruptions the night Nancy went missing, NBC’s Liz Kreutz reported on the Today show on Friday, March 6.
Authorities have not publicly commented on whether the reported internet glitches are part of the investigation.
“We should also note that the homeowners we spoke to were either asleep or not home so they couldn’t say if they had any issues with their internet,” Kreutz said.
The search for Nancy is nearly in its sixth week and no suspects or persons of interest have been identified.
The FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have pointed to surveillance footage that appears to show a masked, armed person tampering with her doorbell camera on the morning of her kidnapping.
That suspect has been described by the FBI’s Phoenix office as a “male, approximately 5’9” – 5’10” tall, with an average build.” In the clip, the person is wearing a “black, 25-liter ‘Ozark Trail Hiker Pack’ backpack,” per an FBI post on X.
In a statement to PEOPLE on Thursday, Feb. 19, a spokesperson for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said investigators are looking into the possibility that the person may have had an accomplice.

“The sheriff has said all along that while investigators are working to identify the person seen on doorbell video, they are not ruling out that that was the only person involved,” the spokesperson said. Sheriff Chris Nanos has publicly expressed his hope that “[Nancy] is alive,” they added.
In a video posted to Instagram on Tuesday, Feb. 24, Savannah 54, said her family has been “fearing for [Nancy] and aching for her and most of all just missing her.”
Savannah reunited with her Today colleagues this week. A spokesperson confirmed to PEOPLE that she “plans to return to the show on air.” While no date has been announced yet, the statement concluded, “she remains focused right now supporting her family and working to help bring Nancy home.”

A $100,000 reward had been offered by the FBI for any information leading to Nancy’s recovery or an arrest in the case. Savannah and her family have since offered an increased $1 million reward and donated $500,000 to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
