The Catalina Hills community where Nancy Guthrie lives has been on edge for nearly two weeks as authorities search for the 84-year-old. And with the release yesterday of chilling video from Guthrie’s porch, neighbors’ fears are being renewed, they said.
“Seeing that monster come onto the porch is, like, I mean, it’s horrible,” said Nicollete Daly. “My mom lives here in town. She lives alone — now I’m worried as heck about her.”
Daly is concerned for her own safety, too.
“I’m scared to be alone,” she said.

Tomorrow will mark one week since authorities last provided an official news briefing on the status of the Guthrie case, though the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been supplying written updates.
They have said investigators continue “working around the clock” as they follow up on all leads.
Since Feb. 1, when Guthrie was reported missing, the sheriff’s department has fielded more than 18,000 calls, it said. More than 4,000 of those have come since video and images were released yesterday from Guthrie’s front door camera.

What we know about Nancy Guthrie’s health
The sheriff has said Guthrie does not have cognitive issues, characterizing her as “sharp as a tack.” However, he said, she has limited mobility and needs to take medication daily or “it could be fatal.”
“She is mobile. It’s a challenge for her to get, as the family says, she couldn’t walk 50 yards by herself,” he said.
She has a pacemaker — a device typically implanted under the skin to regulate heartbeat — which disconnected from its monitoring app on her phone early on Feb. 1.
In an emotional video posted to her Instagram page, Savannah Guthrie pleaded for her mother’s return, noting her health is fragile.
“She lives in constant pain. She is without any medicine. She needs it to survive, and she needs it not to suffer,” Savannah Guthrie said in the video, flanked by her sister, Annie, and brother, Camron.

Guthrie’s neighbors rally to show their support for family
Leaders of Guthrie’s housing development urged friends and neighbors to show their support for the family by displaying yellow ribbons or flowers as a “sign of hope for her safe return.”
The Catalina Foothills Association said “each neighbor who is so inclined should arrange for yellow roses with prominent yellow ribbons to be placed at the curb in front of Nancy’s home, creating a visible show of solidarity on the street and a traditional sign of hope for her safe return.”
“You may also want to tie a yellow ribbon in front of your own home to demonstrate that you stand with the Guthrie’s and your fellow neighbors,” the CFA added.
Yellow ribbons have long been a symbol that honors loved ones who are away at war or in captivity. “Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree“ was a No. 1 hit for Tony Orlando and Dawn in 1973.
