Malinin’s story was a share of a post by Samuel Mindra, a coach with Team USA who is from Portland. According to an OPB article, Mindra also coaches at the Lloyd Center ice rink. Mindra made a guest appearance at the rink’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony in November.

Will US ‘Quad God’ try hardest jump of all in his final Olympic skate?

Malinin, a two-time world champion, is currently wowing judges and crowds in Milan for the Olympic games. And yes, they call him the “Quad God” because he was the first skater to successfully land a quad Axel in competition at the 2022 U.S. Figure Skating Classic.

It’s unclear if Malinin, who is from Virginia, has ever even visited the Lloyd Center ice rink, but he could have his chance to do so this spring.

He will perform with Stars on Ice 2026, which is coming to Veterans Memorial Coliseum May 24.

Former detective Gary Jubelin has weighed in, suggesting the case may now center on someone inside the home — a possibility few were prepared to confront. Authorities say they are treating the situation as a serious criminal matter, with mounting fears about what may have happened in those critical early hours. And according to sources close to the investigation, one newly uncovered detail has effectively erased the last fragile hope that Gus would be found alive. What changed? What did investigators discover that altered the entire direction of the case?
