For many years I’ve listened to people criticising the Beckhams, individuals who have been part of David’s and Victoria’s circle. Some were former employees, others knew them from different walks of life.
And sometimes those accusations were unpleasant.
David and Victoria are, after all, ambitious A-list superstars, and they are far from perfect.
But one thing that all of these people agreed on, no matter how much vitriol they have for the Beckhams, is that they are brilliant, loving parents who would do anything for their children.
They have been besotted with Brooklyn since the day he was born. All they ever wanted was to give him the best start they could in life.
As a supremely well-connected couple, they’ve offered him as many opportunities as they could manage, though it does not appear to have been enough given this heartbreaking post. Instead, Brooklyn believes he was controlled by them, and that’s something he says has caused him anxiety.
I came to learn how much the Beckhams love Brooklyn over the last decade because a number of stories have came my way which did not paint him in the best of lights.
Some included him getting involved with the wrong crowd, others were ‘kiss and tells’ from former girlfriends.
On every occasion, when I put these stories to the Beckhams’ camp, their PR machine leapt into overdrive in Brooklyn’s defence, on occasions instructing expensive lawyers to protect him.
Today though, Brooklyn appears to have forgotten all that. Ignored how David and Victoria bent over backwards to try to provide him with those opportunities and contacts.
All they were doing was what any loving parent would do – trying to help Brooklyn and their other children along the way, to point them in the right direction and ensure they fulfilled their potentials.
Despite their busy careers, the children were their absolute priority.
Brooklyn has thrown all that unconditional love back in David and Victoria’s faces. He seems to have forgotten the fact that the feud really kicked off last May because he and Nicola, who had come over to England from the US, refused to join at the family party to celebrate David’s 50th birthday.

Instead, Brooklyn reveals that he wanted his own special ‘quality’ time with Dad. How spoilt does that sound?
If Brooklyn and Nicola think that this will help their own image, they are sadly deluded. To my mind, it is proof of what we already knew – that they are nothing but a pair of over indulged nepo babies who haven’t quite got their own way.
David and Victoria, of course, will be absolutely devastated. Friends believe his lengthy post was cruelly designed to upset them, and the first they heard of their son’s character assassination on them was just minutes after it went live.
Shortly after the outburst, various family friends got in touch to share their sadness. Not just for David, Victoria and the other kids but Brooklyn too.
But the question on everyone’s lips is why Brooklyn chose now to let loose?
The attack comes just days after he and Nicola parted ways from their ‘attack dog’ publicist, Matthew Hiltzik. I was told that Hiltzik had become frustrated with the couple and their apparent determination to goad Posh and Becks; he appears to have beentrying to save them from themselves by advising them to button it.
Then, last Friday, a story appeared in the New York Post. It was an overview of the saga, in which one source said they believed that Brooklyn would before too long be reconciled with his family, and that those around him couldn’t see why not.

Did this claim drive Brooklyn to publicly lambast his parents in the most brutal of ways – on the Instagram account he has blocked them from?
I know Brooklyn is furious that his parents have blamed Nicola for the feud. But in fact, this again is them showing parental concern, for they have been worried about him.
They believe that Brooklyn changed when he met Nicola, that they lost him. They believe their son is being controlled by her and that she is a narcissist. They won’t back down in that belief either.
As for who wrote the post, it’s fair to suggest it wasn’t Brooklyn as it is far too sophisticated. This will worry Posh and Becks further as it seems to add weight to their theory that he is being controlled out there in the States, where he spends a lot of time with Nicola’s billionaire parents Nelson and Claudia – both of them despised by the Beckham clan.

One of the lowest points in the post for David and Victoria will have been the mention of his ‘future family’. Being grandparents is a dream for them, and it’s quite clear from that sentence that they will never see any offspring Brooklyn has unless matters improve.

Both Romeo and Cruz have remained profusely loyal to Mum and Dad and are incensed by their older sibling’s treatment of them.
As for Harper, she’s as innocent as they come. But surely now a relationship with Brooklyn is impossible.
And then there are his ageing grandparents, who Brooklyn claims to speak to still, but hasn’t seen for the best part of a year.
Just days into this fall out, I was told that David and Victoria had no expectations of their beloved, eldest son wanting to talk to them anytime soon – if ever again.
I hoped I was wrong. But now, tragically, I fear I wasn’t.
