For the first time since the violence shattered Tumbler Ridge, there is a small but real piece of hope.
Paige Hoekstra, who was badly injured during the shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, has been cleared by doctors to return home. After surgery and a series of follow-up tests, her medical team believes she can safely continue her recovery in the very community that is still trying to make sense of what happened.

In a message shared by her family, gratitude filled every line. They thanked those who prayed, donated, and stood with them. They also extended their support to the other families forever changed by this tragedy.
Five students and one educator lost their lives that day. The teen responsible had already killed her mother and half-brother before going to the school.
Another survivor, 12-year-old Maya Gebala, remains hospitalized in Vancouver with severe brain injuries. Her family says she is moving on her left side. The road ahead is uncertain, but they are holding on to hope.
Tumbler Ridge is grieving. But today, one daughter is coming home.
