In a stunning and highly unusual development, authorities investigating the disappearance of young siblings Lilly and Jack Sullivan have delivered a very public and extremely tough message to the children’s parents.

Law enforcement officials announced today that they are prepared to immediately terminate the active search operation for the missing brother and sister if the parents continue to provide statements that are “materially false” or “knowingly misleading”.
The dramatic warning comes after investigators obtained CCTV footage that directly contradicts key parts of the timeline and account previously given by the Sullivan family.
According to senior officers familiar with the case, the recovered video material — which shows the children in a location and at a time significantly different from what the parents initially described — has raised “very serious questions” about the reliability and truthfulness of the information the family has provided so far.
“The footage is very clear,” a police spokesperson stated in an unusually blunt press release. “It shows a sequence of events that is fundamentally at odds with the version of events the family has repeatedly told investigators and the public.”
Officers emphasized that while they are still treating the disappearance as an active missing persons case, the continued provision of demonstrably false information is severely damaging the investigation.
“We cannot — and will not — continue to deploy very significant resources, including hundreds of search hours, canine units, divers, helicopters and hundreds of officers when the information being provided by the people closest to the children is repeatedly shown to be untrue,” the statement continued.
Many observers have described the police’s public position as unprecedented in tone and directness.
The family has not yet made any official public comment on today’s development. However, sources close to the investigation say detectives have already had several tense follow-up interviews with the parents after the CCTV material was shown to them.
The community remains deeply divided. While many people still hold out hope that Lilly and Jack will be found safe, a growing number of local residents and online commentators are now openly questioning the family’s version of events.
Police have made it clear they are not accusing the parents of direct involvement in the disappearance at this stage — but they are very clearly accusing them of providing false information that is actively hindering the search effort.
The next few hours and days are expected to be critical. If the parents significantly change their account and provide information that aligns with the available CCTV evidence, the full-scale search is likely to continue. If they maintain the current version of events that has already been contradicted, officers have strongly signaled they will stand down the major search operation.
The fate of Lilly and Jack Sullivan — and the level of cooperation the police receive from their own parents — now appears to hang in a very fragile balance.
