“This isn’t Justice but Injustice”: The families of Adam Muskett and Katie Worrel are σutraged over the LENIENT sentence handed to the driver who veered into the wrong lane and tσσk the lιves of the “beloved” young couple in a hσ:rrific crɑsh

A DRIVER who killed a “much-loved” young couple in a horror crash after veering onto the wrong side of the road has avoided jail.

Katie Worrell, 25, and Adam Muskett, 27, were killed when their black Ford Fiesta collided with a Jaguar XKR in June 2024.

Alexander MacCallum was driving “all over the place” on the wet road, which had a lot of “sweeping bends”.

The 28-year-old’s Jag was then seen to “kick out” as MacCallum lost control and smashed into the couple while driving on the wrong side of the road.

Horrified witnesses heard a “loud bang” before they saw the driver taking pictures of his mangled car as Katie and Adam lay dying.

MacCallum later told police he had only owned the Jaguar for around two months and had never driven a car “with that level of power” before.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of causing death by careless driving but avoided jail and was instead handed an 18 month sentence suspended for 12 months.

In a victim impact statement, Katie’s family describe her and Adam as a “fun-loving couple” with their lives ahead of them.

Adam’s mum Helen Muskett said the couple were going on holiday to celebrate Katie’s birthday when the crash happened.

She tearfully added: “Adam and Katie were heading off on holiday together to celebrate Katie’s 25th birthday.

“In the car were banners and balloons Adam that had bought as a surprise; cards and gifts never to be opened and were later strewn across the carriageway.

“They were both incredibly loved by so many people.”

Swansea Crown Court heard a driver in front of Adam’s car saw MacCallum’s Jaguar approaching at a “dangerous speed” for the rain-soaked conditions.

He was travelling at the limit of 60mph road at the time of the crash.

Prosecutor Craig Jones said: “Adam Muskett and Katie Worrell, who were boyfriend and girlfriend, were travelling in the opposite direction of the defendant in a black Ford Fiesta.

“There is no suggestion that Adam Muskett’s driving was in any way contributory to the collision.

“Several witnesses to the collision and police officers who subsequently attended described very poor driving conditions, heavy rain, wet roads, spray and cold weather.”

A witness asked MacCallum what happened after the crash and he told her: “I was overtaking, I put my foot down and lost it in the wet.”

The court heard Adam died at the scene of the crash on the country road in Carmarthenshire, Wales, while Katie later died in hospital having been airlifted for treatment.

Her devastated family later raised £12,000 for the Wales Air Ambulance charity in her memory.

In a tribute at the time of their deaths, Katie’s family said: “Katie was a much-loved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece and cousin.

“She lived life to the full, loving to travel and achieving so much in such a short time, she graduated with a Masters and worked hard.

“She loved her friends and Adam beyond words. Katie was kind, caring and beautiful and our lives will never be the same without her.”

Adam’s family said: “Adam, our loving son, brother, grandson and nephew. He loved life, his friends, Tenby, football and Katie very much.

“How do we move on without you, your big kind heart and cheeky smile. We are heartbroken and forever proud.”
