Meghan Markle’s Close Personal Friends Costar Reacts to Working with Her on New Movie
The role marks the Duchess of Sussex’s first return to acting in eight years

Jack Quaid opened up about working with Meghan Markle on the set of his new movie, Close Personal Friends.
Asked by ET about working with Meghan on Close Personal Friends, Quaid replied, “Yeah — no, it was insane,” before pivoting back to the film’s main cast.
“The main cast of it is myself, Brie Larson, Henry Golding and Lily Collins, which is just an incredible group of people to be a part of,” he said. “And every day, we went to set and we just tried our best to make each other laugh.”
“I thought it was going to be more of a rom-com — I’m calling it a com-rom, I think it’s more comedy forward, slightly,” Quaid added. “But it’s about two couples, I don’t know if I can say anything else, but I just had a blast making that movie.”
Meghan, who is slated to make a cameo as herself in the film, was first spotted on set in Pasadena, Calif., in November.
A source told PEOPLE that Meghan was “very relaxed and happy” on the set of Close Personal Friends. “She introduced herself to everyone and was very sweet and down-to-earth,” they said.
A studio source told The Sun that Meghan’s involvement in the project “is a massive moment” for her and “signifies a return to doing what she truly loves.”
“It is Meghan’s way of gently putting her toe back in the water and seeing how she enjoys being back on set,” they said.

The role is her first in eight years, following her departure from the legal drama Suits in 2018, the same year she married her husband, Prince Harry. The couple moved to Santa Barbara in 2020 after stepping back from their royal duties in the U.K., and have since welcomed two children: Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a multi-million dollar deal with Netflix in 2020 for their production company, Archewell Productions, to create documentaries, docuseries, feature films, scripted shows and children’s programming exclusively for the streaming giant.
They appeared together in the 2022 Netflix documentary series Harry & Meghan, and Meghan hosted and executive-produced the 2025 lifestyle series With Love, Meghan. The couple also produced the Netflix docuseries Live to Lead (2022), Heart of Invictus (2023) and Polo (2024).
Netflix opted not to renew Harry and Meghan’s contract last year, with an insider telling PEOPLE at the time that the decision reflected a broader shift in the company’s business strategy. The streaming service ended its partnership with Meghan’s lifestyle brand, As ever, earlier this month, after less than a year.
