In 2020, an 18-year-old named Justin Gavin from Waterbury, Connecticut showed incredible bravery and became a real hero. Justin was walking down the street when he noticed an SUV suddenly catch fire. Inside the burning vehicle were a mother and her three young children. The family was scared and trapped as flames quickly spread around the car.
Without thinking about his own safety, Justin ran toward the fire. He opened the driver’s door and helped the mother get out first. Even though the danger was growing, he did not stop there. The children were still inside the car, and time was running out.
Justin went back to the burning SUV again and again. He pulled out the 9-year-old child, then the 4-year-old, and finally rescued the 1-year-old who was still strapped into a car seat. Moments after the last child was saved, the car was fully engulfed in flames.
Thanks to Justin’s quick thinking and courage, the entire family survived. Later, the Waterbury Police Chief honored him with a special challenge coin to recognize his heroic actions. Justin’s story shows that true heroes step up when it matters most.
