GIG HARBOR, Wash. — Five people are dead, including a suspect, after a man was seen stabbing people in the street on the Key Peninsula Tuesday morning, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
Shortly before 8:50 a.m., a call came in for a violation of a no contact order in a neighborhood near Lake Kathryn. Deputies found the order had not yet been served, so a deputy received a copy of the order to serve the suspect. While a deputy was on their way to do so, witnesses reported a man was stabbing people outside the home they were responding to.
The stabbings were reported at 9:30 a.m. When deputies arrived, the suspect was still stabbing people. The deputy shot and killed the man at 9:33 a.m., the sheriff’s office said.
Four stabbing victims are dead along with the 32-year-old suspect, the sheriff’s office said. Three victims died at the scene and the fourth was transported by Gig Harbor Fire crews but died at the hospital.
The ages of the victims have not been made public. Preliminary information indicates they are all adults.
Though the names of the victims and suspect have not been released, KING 5 pieced together a history of violence and concern at the address in the 14000 block of 87th Avenue Court NW near Purdy. According to a temporary protection order, a mother filed multiple protective orders against her adult son.
The Pierce County Force Investigation Team has taken over the investigation.
