Louisiana tragedy leaves multiple victims as investigation centers on Shamar Elkins

Louisiana, United States — Authorities are investigating a devastating domestic incident that has left multiple victims, including several children, in what officials describe as one of the most tragic cases reported in the area.

Police identified the primary suspect as Shamar Elkins, who is accused of taking the lives of his own children and critically injuring their mother, Shaneiqua Elkins.

Officials also confirmed that additional individuals related to Shaneiqua Elkins were attacked during the incident, though their identities have not yet been publicly released.

According to law enforcement, officers responded shortly after 6:00 a.m. to reports of a shooting in the 300 block of West 79th Street following a domestic disturbance call. The situation quickly escalated into a large-scale investigation.

Police spokesperson Christopher Bordelon described the scene as “extensive,” noting that it spanned multiple locations, including two homes on the same street and an additional property on nearby Harrison Street.

Authorities confirmed that eight children, ranging in age from 1 to 14 years old, lost their lives in the incident.

Emergency responders also transported Shaneiqua Elkins to a medical facility, where she remains in critical condition.

Investigators are continuing to process evidence across all affected locations as they work to establish a full timeline of events. Officials have not yet disclosed further details regarding a motive.
