But things took a life changing turn when Roxy’s mother Judy saw an advertisement in a magazine about children in need of a family.
Judy applied to adopt Roxy, who was five at the time and in care with her sister.
The volatile relationship between Roxy and her sister meant that Judy was told she was only allowed to adopt one of the siblings.
Roxy explained: ‘Mum had to meet us both and decide which one of us that she would adopt.’
‘So that was really difficult in itself. That’s why I think I’ve been so lucky because I know my sister didn’t get fostered or adopted.
‘Her life is completely different and difficult compared to my luxury. So I can really see how you do fall through the cracks, like she unfortunately did, just by circumstance and not being chosen.’
Roxy and Judy were supporting a recruitment drive launched by the government on o create 10,000 more foster care placements.
Roxy met Judy for the first time with only the clothes she had on and a packed lunch after boarding a train to Doncaster where Judy was living.

During the trip she fell ill with the flu and her foster parents said they did not want her back because she was sick.
Judy made a quick decision that she would remain with her and ultimately went on to adopt her.
While Judy was one of the first contestants to be booted off the series and fans learned of her connection to Roxy, her daugher made it to the later episodes.

‘I would for Stephen or Rachel to win. I think they’re both amazing people and I think they – hopefully – have been faithful and honest throughout this process but yeah, it’s been a ball.’
At the breakfast table, James was reeling from Roxy’s absence. He asked: ‘How am I so wrong. I’ve been shouting [Roxy and Matt] from the hilltops the whole game.’
