Renee Nicole Good died on Jan. 7, 2026, in a shooting that made national headlines.
The mother of three was married to Becca Good, who was by her side when she was fatally shot by an ICE agent on Jan. 7 in Minneapolis. In a video filmed moments after the incident, Becca yelled out, “They just shot my wife.”
Following Renee’s death, Becca shared a statement with Minnesota Public Radio in which she said that they had stopped to support their neighbors that day amid an immigration enforcement operation. “We had whistles. They had guns,” she said.
In the aftermath, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem claimed Good had been “stalking and impeding” ICE agents that day. DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin alleged in a statement that the ICE agent who shot Good was “fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement and the safety of the public.”

Renee and her wife had recently moved from Kansas City, Mo., to Minneapolis, where they had lived on a quiet residential street, as her ex-husband told the Associated Press.
In her statement to MPR, Becca shared that she and Renee moved to Minneapolis to “make a better life” for themselves.
“What we found when we got here was a vibrant and welcoming community, we made friends and spread joy,” Becca wrote in her statement to MPR. “And while any place we were together was home, there was a strong shared sense here in Minneapolis that we were looking out for each other. Here, I had finally found peace and safe harbor.”

Good was a mother of three, who are 15, 12 and 6 years old as of January 2026, per the Associated Press. According to the outlet, she was married twice, welcoming a daughter and son during her first marriage, followed by another son during her second.
Her second husband, Timmy Macklin Jr., died in 2023 at 36 years old, according to The Washington Post. Per the outlet, he was a military veteran who suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder.
Renee’s 6-year-old son was living with her and Becca in Minneapolis, and they had dropped him off at school just before her death. Timmy’s brother, Joseph Macklin, told The Washington Post that Renee, who he described as “kindhearted,” made an effort to keep her son in touch with his family back in Tennessee and often brought him to visit.
“We just buried his father three years ago in June, and now he lost his mother,” Joseph said of his nephew. “It is definitely a tragedy no kid should have to go through at such a young age.”
Becca said they were raising their son to believe everyone “deserves compassion and kindness”

In her statement to MPR, Becca opened up about raising Renee’s son, saying that the pair were teaching him to “believe that no matter where you come from or what you look like, all of us deserve compassion and kindness.”
She added that Renee “lived this belief every day.”
The statement was also shared on a GoFundMe organized by a family friend, which was set up for Renee’s children and Becca in the wake of their loss and has raised nearly $1.5M as of Jan. 14, 2026.

Becca is remembering her late wife as “pure love,” “pure joy” and “pure sunshine,” as she described Renee to MPR.
Becca also shared that Renee was a devoted Christian who “knew that all religions teach the same essential truth: we are here to love each other, care for each other, and keep each other safe and whole.”
Meanwhile, Renee’s mother, Donna Ganger, told The Minnesota Star Tribune that her daughter was “one of the kindest people” she’d ever known.
“She was extremely compassionate,” Ganger continued. “She’s taken care of people all her life. She was loving, forgiving and affectionate. She was an amazing human being.”
