Some opinions suggest that the photo posted by the girlfriend of Igor Komarov – son of a Ukrainian crime boss – on her personal social media account during their trip to Bali (Indonesia) inadvertently revealed his location to the kidnappers.
Ukrainian Tycoon’s Son Kidnapped and Dismembered
The case has shocked international media: Ukrainian tourist Igor Komarov was kidnapped while vacationing with his girlfriend in Bali (Indonesia). The abductors demanded a massive ransom from his family.
Initial investigation shows that Komarov was ambushed and abducted on February 15 in the Jimbaran area – a famous beachside spot in Bali popular among Russian and Ukrainian visitors. The suspects used a convoy of vehicles in a “military-style” operation to carry out the kidnapping. The victim was then taken to a luxurious villa on Bali’s west coast.
There, he was tortured, drugged, and mutilated. According to reports, Komarov was forced to appear in a video pleading for a wealthy Ukrainian businessman – believed to be his father – to pay a $10 million ransom. Media outlets like the New York Post report that the victim’s father is a prominent figure in Dnipro’s business and organized crime circles, suggesting the abduction was likely a targeted extortion attempt.
Despite this, the victim was ultimately murdered. Dismembered body parts were recently discovered at the mouth of a river on Bali island. The remains were heavily decomposed, making visual identification impossible. Police noted that the severed head and other body parts were found in the river, with matching tattoos on the chest and bruised eyes strongly indicating they belonged to the 28-year-old Komarov.
The mystery was solved when Bali police sent bone samples to the national forensic lab in Jakarta for DNA testing. Bali police spokesman Ariasandy confirmed: “We compared the DNA profiles from the remains with reference samples from the victim’s parents, and the results matched.” Forensic doctor Nola Margaret Gunawan, conducting the autopsy at Ngurah Rai General Hospital, stated the DNA match was 99.9% accurate. Although the process typically takes a month, it was expedited due to intense public attention.
Did the Girlfriend Accidentally Reveal His Location to the Kidnappers?

Bali police have identified seven suspects in the kidnapping, dismemberment, and murder. One foreign suspect, identified by initials CH, was arrested on neighboring Lombok island. This individual allegedly rented one of the vehicles used in the abduction using a fake passport to enter Indonesia. CH claimed he was unaware of the criminal intent and was only paid $500 (about 13 million VND) to arrange the rental.
Four other suspects fled Bali via the international airport, while the remaining two are believed to be hiding on Bali or elsewhere in Indonesia. All have been placed on Indonesia’s wanted list and Interpol’s Red Notice. An additional Indonesian citizen was arrested for providing the fake passport to CH.
Before the murder, Komarov was reportedly vacationing in Bali with his girlfriend, influencer Eva Mishalova (nearly 200,000 Instagram followers). Some speculate that a photo she posted on her personal account – showing the couple together with the caption “Love you every day” – may have unintentionally exposed the victim’s location to the kidnappers, possibly via geotags or visible details.
Even after the incident, Mishalova kept the photo on her profile and continued posting other content from her Bali trip. Five days after her boyfriend’s abduction, she shared videos promoting cosmetics and dancing at the famous Savaya Bali club.
To date, Mishalova has not responded to media questions about the case.
