The Missouri carer was accused of shipping a young girl in her care to Texas in exchange for a friend’s monkey in a jaw-dropping deal.
Alarm bells rang when school resource officers at the girl’s Winfield school noticed a string of unexplained absences in 2025 and began digging into the mystery.
Disturbing rumours soon surfaced that the child had been swapped for an exotic animal in Texas, according to court documents.
An officer contacted Texas police and tracked down the person the girl was staying with.
The new carer allegedly claimed she kept the child because she and her foster mum “weren’t getting along.”
Meanwhile, Brenda insisted the girl was safe and even claimed she had been enrolled in school in the Lone Star State.
A prosecutor told NBC: “It was described to me early on that the defendant became frustrated with this individual child and asked her friend in Texas if she would just take the child and keep her.
“And at that point I think is when she says, ‘You know, why don’t you send a monkey and you can just keep the child?’”

The friend later told police she no longer wanted the responsibility, claiming the girl was frequently left alone for days at a time.
She also said Brenda refused to pay for a flight home, according to court papers.
The child was eventually returned to Missouri, where she made harrowing claims of mental and physical abuse at Brenda’s hands.
She alleged that she was beaten with wood, shoes and a paddle while living under the foster mum’s roof.
Child welfare officials had already received a tip months earlier warning the girl was being abused.
Brenda was originally slapped with additional charges, including two counts of child abuse or neglect, but prosecutors agreed to drop them in exchange for her guilty plea, Fox 2 reported.
At one point, Brenda’s friend was due to be away for five days – but when she failed to return after seven, another individual stepped in.
That person ultimately handed the child over to Child Protective Services in Texas.
Brenda now faces up to seven years behind bars – or as little as one year in jail.
In another harrowing case, two foster mums are accused of abusing and starving a 12-year-old boy before he was found dead in the basement.
