The nation woke up to heartbreak this morning — ‘Today’ host Samantha Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother has been reported missing under deeply alarming circumstances. What started as a desperate search has now taken a chilling turn, after investigators confirmed that newly uncovered footage exposes the identity of someone no one expected.
Sources describe what’s captured on the tape as “unthinkable,” calling it the kind of revelation that could upend everything Guthrie thought she knew about her family’s circle.

What did the footage show — and who was it?
Authorities in Arizona are hunting for the mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie after the 84-year-old went missing on Saturday night.
Pima County Sheriff’s office says Nancy Guthrie, whose husband died when Savannah was just 16, was last seen outside her home near Tucson.
Her family had apparently reached out to report her missing around midday on Sunday. Savannah, in a statement issued on behalf of their family on Monday, said: “I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” she said. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom.

It comes after Sheriff Chris Nanos told the network he has “grave concern” given what officers saw at Guthrie’s mother’s home.
“This one stood out because of what was described to us at the scene and what we found and located just in looking at the scene,” he said.

The sheriff did not offer further details but said homicide detectives had attended the site of her disappearance. He described her “not of good physical health” and a “vulnerable adult,” but also said that foul play cannot be ruled out at this stage.
“There are some things there that are concerning to us. We just don’t want to miss anything,” he said. “We’ve pretty much thrown everything at this as we can.”
The Guthrie family has since put out a statement confirming there is an ongoing missing persons case, and that “the family is working closely with local law enforcement.”
They add they are grateful for “the outreach, thoughts and prayers” they have received thus far.
Savannah Guthrie, 54, returned to work at Today two weeks ago after taking more than a month off to recover from surgery.
The procedure on her vocal cords last month was designed to remove growths that had been affecting her voice.

She has previously spoken fondly of her mother, and described their relationship as close.
“She loves us, her family, fiercely, and her selflessness and sacrifice for us, her steadfastness and her unmovable confidence is the reason any of us grew up to do anything,” she said in a 2022 tribute marking her mother’s 80th birthday.
