ICE Agent Suffered ‘Internal Bleeding’ in Fatal Minnesota Shooting
MINNEAPOLIS — The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reports that Ross, the ICE agent who fatally shot a woman in Minneapolis, suffered internal bleeding following the incident, though the severity of his condition remains unclear.
Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, confirmed on January 14 that Jonathan Ross—the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent who shot and killed driver Renee Nicole Good—experienced internal hemorrhaging after the encounter.
DHS has not provided further details regarding the extent of the bleeding or Ross’s current medical status.
Scene footage shows Agent Ross walking away from the area on his own power after the shots were fired. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem later confirmed that Ross was transported to a hospital and discharged the same day. One source indicated that Ross has not yet returned to duty, though no specific reason was cited.
The Incident The January 7 shooting sparked protests in Minneapolis and several other U.S. cities. Preliminary information suggests that Good’s vehicle was blocking the road and began moving as an ICE agent approached. Ross, positioned in front of the vehicle at the time, fired three rounds at Good at close range, resulting in her death.
Secretary Noem described Good’s actions as “domestic terrorism,” stating that Ross, a seasoned agent, believed he acted in self-defense and to protect his colleagues.
Background of the Agent According to court records, Ross is a 10-year law enforcement veteran who was seriously injured during a separate immigration sweep in Minneapolis last June. In that incident, Ross was dragged by a vehicle while attempting to apprehend a suspect and required 33 stitches.
Gregory Bovino, a U.S. Border Patrol official, told CBS News that Agent Ross has “repeatedly encountered life-threatening threats.”
“Ross is in a secure location recovering. We are glad that he is on the mend,” Bovino stated.
