In an interview published this Sunday, June 28, the mother of Louis, a 17-year-old teenager beaten to death in an ambush in Narbonne, expressed her anger, denouncing the inadequate handling of her son’s case, who had already reported acts of violence against him.

An angry mother. In an interview with Le Journal du Dimanche published this June 28, the mother of Louisโa 17-year-old teenager beaten to death in an ambush in Narbonneโdid not hide her rage over the failures that she believes led to her son’s death.
Placed in a child social assistance (ASE) foster care home since May, Louis had filed a complaint last May regarding acts of violence unrelated to the youths implicated in his death, and had reported other instances of violence to the gendarmerie in June without filing a formal complaint.
“I warned them that a tragedy could happen, but nobody listened to me,” his mother stated.
“My message went unanswered”
Despite these initial assaults being reported, the victim’s mother emphasized that the child social assistance services (ASE) failed to fulfill their protective role.
“The care home had scheduled an appointment on Tuesday, June 16, for Louis to file a complaint. But since he had run away, they couldn’t accompany him,” she recounted.
“As for the ASE, there was radio silence. The danger was not taken seriously. I went to the gendarmerie in my town myself to request that my son’s runaway status be classified as a worrying disappearance… I naturally followed up this police station visit with a call to the ASE. My message went unanswered,” she added.
“It is time for war”
While Louis’s death has sparked widespread indignation across Franceโparticularly due to video footage of the lynching being shared on social mediaโhis mother intends to fight to ensure similar tragedies do not happen again.
“This is not the time for mourning; it is the time for war. There is no way another mother’s or father’s heart will be broken like ours. Let France be ready: we are determined, and I am angrier than ever!” she assured Le Journal du Dimanche.
Regarding the five suspects under formal investigationโsome of whom are minorsโLouis’s mother wants them to be tried as adults.
“I want the laws to be revised. When you kill a man, you pay like a man,” she snapped before concluding: “We can no longer rely on laws from another era to judge minors who are no longer the minors of the past.”
