She was found locked inside her own room… but the truth inside was far darker than anyone expected.

DNA Evidence Points to Stepfather in Death of 12-Year-Old Girl, Raising Urgent Questions in Ongoing Investigation

A quiet home became the center of a deeply troubling investigation after a 12-year-old girl was found dead under circumstances authorities now describe as “suspicious” — with newly released evidence pointing directly to someone inside the household.

According to an affidavit, police responded on March 18 to a residence where Eve Rogers was discovered unresponsive on the floor of her bedroom. Her mother told officers she had last seen her daughter the night before, when the child had locked herself inside her room — behavior she described as not unusual.

The following morning, when Eve failed to respond, her mother forced entry into the room and found her daughter lying on the floor.

At first glance, investigators noted the presence of several pills near the child’s body, raising initial questions about a possible overdose. But as officers processed the scene, details began to emerge that shifted the direction of the case.

According to court documents, Eve was found partially undressed — nude from the waist down — a discovery that immediately raised concerns among investigators. Authorities also observed additional indicators suggesting the possibility of sexual assault, prompting them to expand the scope of the investigation.

A sexual assault kit was administered, and the results would later become a critical turning point.

Forensic analysis revealed the presence of two foreign DNA profiles on the child’s body. One of those profiles matched her stepfather, Anthony Federline.

In response, detectives returned to the home to collect DNA samples from multiple individuals living there, including Federline, the child’s mother, and three other children between the ages of 6 and 17. The findings further intensified scrutiny on the household — and particularly on the stepfather.

On April 3, Federline was arrested and charged with first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a child. He is currently being held on a $1 million bond.

Yet despite the arrest, key questions remain unanswered.

Authorities have confirmed that a toxicology report is still pending — a crucial piece of evidence that could determine whether drugs played a role in Eve’s death, or whether other factors were involved. Investigators have not yet publicly confirmed the official cause of death, leaving open multiple possibilities as the case continues to unfold.

What makes the case particularly disturbing is not only the forensic evidence, but the environment in which it occurred — inside a family home, where multiple children were present.

Cases like this often expose a difficult reality for investigators: the most serious threats to children can sometimes come from within their immediate surroundings. Experts note that such investigations are often complex, requiring careful coordination between forensic evidence, witness statements, and medical findings.

As the legal process begins, the focus now shifts to what the evidence will ultimately prove — and whether additional charges could follow depending on the final autopsy and toxicology results.

For now, the death of Eve Rogers remains both a criminal investigation and a broader warning — one that underscores how quickly a seemingly routine call can evolve into a case involving layered, deeply troubling circumstances.

And as authorities continue to piece together what happened behind closed doors, one question continues to linger:

What exactly happened in that room — and how long had the warning signs been there?
