A Brooklyn nurse was publicly identified Saturday as the victim struck and killed by an ambulance in Midwood while on her way to work, police and family said.
The ambulance, operated by Maimonides Medical Center, was making a left turn from Avenue O onto Ocean Avenue when it hit Cherry Cayetano Sobel, 44, on Thursday, cops said.
The driver didn’t stop.

“She was on her way to work,” her husband, Jeff Sobel, told The Post. “It was her regular route to work.”
Cayetano Sobel, who lived a mile and a half from where she was struck, was rushed to Maimonides but couldn’t be saved.

She was “a very well regarded registered nurse,” her husband said.
“It was a regular day for her,” he said. “She left for work happy. She took that route many times.”
The couple married in 2020 and shared his two children, aged 5 and 3.
“I’m holding it together for the children and for everyone else,” he said. “I am adjusting. But it’s a shock. And I try to find a way forward.”
Detectives believe the driver didn’t realize they hit someone.
The hospital suspended the ambulance crew pending the outcome of an investigation, according to a statement from officials.
“The Maimonides family is devastated by this tragic loss,” the statement reads.

“Our EMT staff who were involved in the incident have been suspended pending the outcome of the NYPD’s investigation. Our heart goes out to the victim’s family and friends.”
There were no immediate criminal charges.
“Life has a funny way of working out, just when you thought it never will…,” her Facebook profile reads.
In a 2023 post on the site, she featured a photo of an identification card with her name on it for The Phoenix Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
