Friends of Tiger Woods, who was recently arrested for driving under the influence (DUI), are concerned about the athlete, a source tells PEOPLE.

The professional golfer, 50, was arrested and charged with DUI with property damage, as well as refusal to submit to a lawful test, after he was involved in a rollover crash near Jupiter Island, Fla. (where he lives) on Friday, March 27.

In the wake of the arrest, a source close to Woods says he needs to “get real” and expresses worry over his behavior, particularly as it pertains to his relationship with girlfriend Vanessa Trump. “They are an intense couple,” the insider tells PEOPLE exclusively of the pair, who have been dating for more than a year.

“It’s serious,” adds the source, “but Tiger has yet to look in the mirror and say, ‘You’re 50 years old and need to act like it.’ ”

“He is enabled by people making money off of his talent and reputation, but with his injuries and age, he is frustrated and depressed about his state of health,” the insider says of Woods. “He wants to play in major tournaments like the Masters, but he needs to get real.”

Adds the source: “Once he does that, he should be better off because people do like Tiger. He is a good person.”

The insider also tells PEOPLE that the five-time Masters champ “has never really gotten over” the death of his father, Earl, nearly two decades ago.

“Tiger needs to get a grip on his limitations and make arrangements for them,” the source says. “His peace of mind has run amok over golf and his pain.”

Should Woods — who recently returned to pro golf after a year out due to multiple injuries — enter the Masters Tournament, however, Trump, 48, “would support his decision,” a different source exclusively tells PEOPLE.

Woods is a very private person and hates when his life is in the headlines, another source adds of the pro golfer. “He despises public scrutiny,” says the insider.

The March 27 crash that led to Woods’ DUI arrest involved the athlete’s Land Rover and a pressure-cleaning truck that was pulling a small trailer, Martin County Sheriff John M. Budensiek previously said in a press conference.

The police chief confirmed that Woods “did exhibit signs of impairment,” but added that authorities “were not suspicious of alcohol being involved in this case, and that proved to be true at the jail,” where he blew “triple zeroes” on the breathalyzer test.

After bonding out, Woods was released from custody at Martin County jail that same day. His mugshot was released shortly after his arrest.

Woods was previously involved in two other car accidents. He sustained serious injuries in a 2021 crash in Los Angeles that required surgery and was also involved in a separate incident in 2009, also near his Florida residence.
