As the search for Nancy Guthrie continues, the sheriff leading the investigation is warning the public not to give money to “fraudulent” fundraising efforts.

In a statement posted on social media, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos asserted that no fundraisers or GoFundMe campaigns were associated with the search for Guthrie, who has been missing since Feb. 1.

“Billboard displays are funded through official channels,” Nanos said. “Any claims suggesting otherwise are fraudulent and will be investigated accordingly.”

Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today co-host Savannah Guthrie, was last seen on Jan. 31, when she was dropped off at her Tucson home following dinner with family members.

Authorities believe she was taken “against her will” sometime in the early morning hours of Feb. 1.

The case has garnered significant coverage and public interest. Investigators have since released surveillance footage taken from Guthrie’s doorbell camera.

The footage showed a masked man outside the door of the home. But after nearly two months, a suspect has still not been identified.

Savannah recently sat down with her co-host Hoda Kotb for her first interview since her mother was kidnapped. It is set to air Thursday, March 26 and Friday, March 27.

“Someone needs to do the right thing,” Savannah said through tears. “We are in agony. We are in agony. It is unbearable.”
