Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie‘s mom, Nancy Guthrie, is still missing going on six weeks after the abduction from her Tucson, Ariz., home—however, a former FBI agent speculated that investigators are “close to an arrest.”
In a Tuesday, March 11, Jennifer Coffindaffer, a retired FBI special agent, took to X with a bold prediction about the 84-year-old’s case.
“Wondering why Sheriff Nanos keeps turning away proven very capable civilian search experts like EquuSearch and the real Cajun Navy?” she wrote, referencing the Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD) and the lead investigator, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, rejecting search plans from the United Cajun Navy and other groups as the search for Nancy continues.

Coffindaffer continued, “Is LE [law enforcement] close to an arrest and they know what happened to Nancy so they don’t want to waste the valuable resources of these groups? But why won’t the sheriff at least acknowledge these groups? Half glass full. Hoping LE is getting closer.”

In a March 4 episode of Brian Entin Investigates, NewsNation correspondent and investigative reporter Brian Entin shared details of the United Cajun Navy’s detailed, 41-page search plan. It included “thermal drone operations, HRD land and water canine teams, track, trail, and scent-specific canines, ground search volunteers,” he explained.
Additionally, the proposed plan called for the operation to work under the PCSD. The department, however, released a statement on X regarding private search parties on Feb. 21.

“Private Search Parties: Volunteer search groups have inquired about being in the area. Per the Sheriff, they were asked to please give investigators the space they need to do their work,” the PCSD update read. “We appreciate their concern, and we all want to find Nancy, but this work is best left to professionals. PCSD has volunteer opportunities if they wish to get involved with the department. Private property laws apply, and it is up to each individual property owner to grant permission for someone to search their property.”

As of writing, Nancy is still missing. She was last seen at her Catalina Foothills residence on Jan. 31, with the PCSD officially launching its search on Feb. 1.
