Body of Kidnapped Ukrainian Tourist Found in Bali (Indonesia), Suspected Link to Multi-Million-Dollar Ransom Plot
Indonesian police have confirmed that human remains discovered on beaches in Bali belong to a Ukrainian tourist who went missing after a kidnapping in mid-February, according to several international news outlets.
According to AFP, the victim was Igor Komarov (also reported as Ihor Komarov), 28, a Ukrainian national. Forensic experts identified the dismembered remains through DNA testing, comparing samples with those of the victim’s mother.

According to the South China Morning Post, Komarov was abducted on February 15 while riding a motorcycle with a friend in the Jimbaran resort area in southern Bali.
The attackers reportedly blocked the road and forced the victim into a car, while his friend managed to escape and later alerted police.
According to India Today, after the kidnapping a video circulated on social media allegedly showing Komarov tied up and being beaten. In the footage, the man believed to be the victim appears terrified and says: “I’ve been kidnapped. If my mother doesn’t pay, they will kill me.”
The video also allegedly shows people behind the camera demanding a ransom of $10 million from the victim’s family in exchange for his life.
The outlet reported that the clip was allegedly sent by the kidnappers to Komarov’s family along with threats claiming that a part of the victim’s body had already been cut off to pressure the family into quickly paying the ransom. However, Indonesian authorities say they are still verifying the authenticity of the video.
On February 26–27, local residents discovered several human body parts washed ashore near Ketewel Beach and the Wos River mouth in Bali.
The remains — including the head, arms, legs, and torso — were in an advanced state of decomposition. Police initially made a preliminary identification based on tattoos on the body before DNA tests later confirmed the victim’s identity.
According to Bali police, forensic evidence also showed the victim’s blood was found at a villa in the Tabanan area, believed to be where Komarov was held by the kidnappers.

Indonesian authorities said they have arrested one man suspected of involvement in the case. He is accused of renting the vehicle used in the kidnapping.
The suspect reportedly named six other foreign nationals who are now considered suspects in the kidnapping and serious violent crime. Police have asked Interpol to issue an international wanted notice to help track them down.
According to the New York Post, the victim’s father is believed to be an influential figure in both the business and criminal underworld in Dnipro, and the kidnapping may have been an attempt to extort money.
However, Indonesian police say the exact motive behind the crime is still under investigation.
Authorities in Indonesia continue to collect evidence, pursue suspects, and cooperate with international agencies to fully uncover what happened in the case.
