Some opinions suggest that a photo posted by the girlfriend of a Ukrainian tycoon’s son on her personal social media account while they were vacationing in Bali (Indonesia) may have inadvertently revealed their location to the kidnappers.
Ukrainian Tycoon’s Son Kidnapped and Brutally Mutilated
The case has shaken international media, involving Ukrainian tourist Igor Komarov, who was kidnapped while traveling with his girlfriend in Bali, Indonesia. The kidnappers later demanded a massive ransom from his family.
Initial investigation reports indicate that Komarov was ambushed and abducted on February 15 in the Jimbaran area. This coastal district of Bali is well known for its beaches and is a popular destination where many Russian and Ukrainian tourists live and vacation.
Before the abduction, the victim and his girlfriend were reportedly staying at a seaside resort in Bali.
The suspects allegedly carried out the kidnapping using a convoy of vehicles in what authorities described as a “military-style operation.” The victim was then taken to a luxury villa on Bali’s western coastline.
There, he was reportedly tortured, drugged, and mutilated.
According to investigators, Komarov was forced to appear in a video demanding that a wealthy Ukrainian businessman pay a ransom of up to $10 million.
Information reported by the New York Post states that the victim’s father is believed to be an influential figure in both business and criminal circles in the city of Dnipro, Ukraine. He has frequently been mentioned in connection with organized crime structures in the region. The kidnapping was likely carried out as part of an extortion attempt.

However, the victim was ultimately killed. Parts of his body were later discovered at the mouth of a river on the island of Bali. By the time the remains were found, the body had decomposed severely and could not be identified by sight.
According to police, the victim’s head had been severed, and several body parts were recovered from a river on the island. Certain identifying features—such as a tattoo on the chest and severe bruising around the eyes—suggested a strong likelihood that the remains belonged to Komarov, 28.
The mystery was only confirmed after Bali police sent bone samples to the National Forensic Laboratory in Jakarta for DNA testing.
Bali police spokesperson Ariasandy said the DNA profile from the recovered remains was compared with reference samples provided by the victim’s parents and produced a match.

“We compared the DNA profiles from the remains with samples from the victim’s parents. The results showed a match,” he said.
Forensic doctor Nola Margaret Gunawan, who conducted the autopsy at Ngurah General Hospital, also confirmed that the DNA test had an accuracy rate of 99.9%.
Earlier, she had said the DNA analysis could take about a month. However, due to the intense public attention surrounding the case, the process was expedited.
Did the Girlfriend Accidentally Reveal the Location?
Bali police have identified seven suspects connected to the kidnapping, dismemberment, and murder.
One suspect, a foreign national identified by the initials CH, was arrested on the neighboring island of Lombok. He allegedly rented one of the vehicles used in the kidnapping and entered Indonesia using a fake passport.

CH told police that he did not know the car would be used in a crime and said he had simply been paid $500 to rent the vehicle.
Meanwhile, four other suspects reportedly fled Bali through the international airport. Two additional suspects are believed to still be hiding somewhere in Bali or another province of Indonesia. All have been placed on Indonesia’s wanted list and issued Interpol red notices.
A source close to the investigation also revealed that another suspect—an Indonesian citizen—had been arrested for providing the fake passport used by CH.
Before the crime occurred, Komarov had been traveling in Bali with his girlfriend Eva Mishalova, a social media influencer with nearly 200,000 followers on Instagram.
Some observers believe that a photo Mishalova posted on her social media account—showing the couple together with the caption “Loving you every day”—may have unintentionally revealed their location to the kidnappers.

Even after the incident, Mishalova reportedly kept the photo on her social media page and continued posting other content while traveling in Bali.
Five days after her boyfriend was kidnapped, she posted a promotional video for cosmetics and another clip of herself dancing at the famous Savaya Bali nightclub.
As of now, Mishalova has not responded to media inquiries regarding the case.
