‘HE’S STILL IN A BAD WAY’ — CHILD KILLER IAN HUNTLEY LEFT SERIOUSLY ILL AFTER BRUTAL METAL BAR ATTACK BEHIND BARS The heavy doors of HMP Frankland clanged shut as emergency alarms pierced the silence, and within minutes, notorious child murderer Ian Huntley was reportedly lying injured on the prison floor after being attacked with a metal bar by a fellow inmate. Three days later, sources say he remains “in a bad way,” with medical staff closely monitoring his condition inside the high-security facility. Huntley — serving life sentences for the 2002 murders of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman — has long been one of Britain’s most reviled prisoners, and tensions around him have simmered for years inside the system. The latest assault, described by insiders as sudden and violent, has reignited questions about safety even within maximum-security wings designed to hold the country’s most dangerous offenders. While prison officials have declined to comment on specific medical details, the aftermath has reportedly left staff on heightened alert, with lockdown measures briefly enforced following the incident. The attack underscores the volatile reality of life behind bars for high-profile inmates whose crimes continue to provoke fury decades later.

The 52-year-old was attacked by a fellow inmate in the workshop of maximum security HMP Frankland.
Huntley was repeatedly smashed over the head at the jail in Durham last Thursday morning.
According to reports, triple killer Anthony Russell allegedly shouted out: “I’ve done it, I’ve done it. I’ve killed him.”
Police had said a man in his 40s was detained in the prison but had not yet been arrested.
Russell was sentenced to a whole-life tariff in 2021 for the murders of Julie Williams, 58, and her son David Williams, 32.
He also murdered pregnant 31-year-old Nicole McGregor, who was found in woodland near Leamington Spa three days later.
Thursday’s assault was the latest attempt on Huntley’s life.
