Liu produced a sensational performance to clinch gold with an overall score of 226.79.
The Californian star beamed from ear-to-ear after narrowly beating Japan‘s Kaori Sakamoto to victory.
She subsequently bowed before skating towards the camera and saying, “That’s what I’m f***ing talking about!”
Liu then yelled “Yes!” as she approached the thrilled crowd.

Interviewed after her triumph, Liu said, “My family is out there, my friends are out there. I had to put on a show for them.
“When I see other people smiling, because I see them in the audience, I have to smile, too. I have no poker face.”
Liu competed in Beijing four years ago as a 16-year-old.
Following her sixth place finish, in an event that saw Sakamoto earn bronze, Liu sensationally retired from the sport as a teen.

Explaining why she did so, Liu told NBC Sports in 2024: “I was so into skating that I really didn’t do much else.
“Skating takes up your whole life, almost.
“I don’t know if other people kind of feel the same when they look back at certain parts of their life, but for me, it’s definitely a blur, because it kind of meshes together, you know – going to the rink, going home, competing.”
Having enrolled at UCLA the previous year, Liu decided to announce her comeback in March 2024 after spending nearly two years away from the sport.

Liu’s Team USA colleague Amber Glenn, meanwhile, rose to fifth in the standings following an excellent free skate.
Glenn, 26, had been left in tears following the short program after a botched move saw her enter the free skate in 13th.
