The prime suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann has been moved from his woodland tent in Northern Germany to a new town amid anger from local residents, ITV News understands.
Christian Brueckner has been living in different areas of woodland since his release from prison in Germany in September 2025, after being convicted of raping a 72 year old American tourist, in Praia Da Luz in Portugal in 2005.
Local residents have repeatedly protested against his presence, citing safety concerns for children and women.

In the pictures you can see a tent surrounded by snow covered by a large gazebo, as well as a sleeping bag, a pink towel and firewood.
ITV News discovered he has a team of helpers who bring him supplies, allowing him to remain undetected by the public.
Brueckner is monitored and surveilled by German police constantly – in six-hour shifts, a team of eight undercover officers a day follow his every movement.
He wears an ankle tag that sends the authorities his location through GPS, and he has two mobile phones – one given to him by the police so they can have constant contact, and one private.

The location of his tent is different from the site where ITV News tracked him down in November 2025, when he lashed out at a camera crew, but is in the same town in Northern Germany.
ITV News understands Mr Brueckner has since been moved to a town over three hours away and will be housed in accomodation by the local authority.
The relocation has been welcomed by residents who took to the streets in protest against his presence.

One, speaking to ITV News on the condition of anonymity said: “The kids in the school playground speak about him, they hear their parents say that he is living in a tent in the forest at the end of our road
“The feeling of fear and worry was all that anyone could speak about.
“Our lives seemed to be put on pause as we had to live in a heightened sense of uncertainty, he is a free man while the rest of must live in a prison of uncertainty and fear.
“What is our ‘win’ now that he is gone is sadly our neighbours ‘loss’, as it becomes their turn for the nightmare to begin all over again.”

Brueckner is German prosecutors’ main suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in 2007.
He denies involvement and has never been charged in connection with her disappearance.
ITV News has contacted Mr Bruecnker’s representatives for comment.
