The “Quad God,” better known as Olympic gold medalist Ilia Malinin, took to Instagram stories to show support for preserving the ice rink at Portland’s Lloyd Center mall.
On Wednesday, he shared a story on his Instagram account from the Save the Lloyd Center Ice Rink Coalition with a link to a petition to save the ice rink.

Malinin’s story was a share of a post by Samuel Mindra, a coach with Team USA who is from Portland. According to an OPB article, Mindra also coaches at the Lloyd Center ice rink. Mindra made a guest appearance at the rink’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony in November.

Malinin, a two-time world champion, is currently wowing judges and crowds in Milan for the Olympic games. And yes, they call him the “Quad God” because he was the first skater to successfully land a quad Axel in competition at the 2022 U.S. Figure Skating Classic.
It’s unclear if Malinin, who is from Virginia, has ever even visited the Lloyd Center ice rink, but he could have his chance to do so this spring.
He will perform with Stars on Ice 2026, which is coming to Veterans Memorial Coliseum May 24.
